Youth Field Day

Tom Zerbe III, Chair (zerbe995@verizon.net)

Our hunting heritage legacy is with today’s youth. If we are to continue our hunting traditions and conservation of the great outdoors we need to introduce youth to these opportunities.

Blue Mt. Chapter Youth Hunt and Field Day
BMC sponsors a Blue Mt. Chapter Youth Hunt and Field Day every September at Central Penn Sporting Clays. Kids from 8-16 years of age get to try archery, shoot a muzzleloader, learn about falconry and other great adventures. Kids of any age are taken hunting to bag their first Chukar. The next Youth Field Day is scheduled for September 9, 2012.

Capital Area Sportsmen for Youth
The Blue Mt. Chapter of Safari Club is a sponsoring member of The Capital Area Sportsmen for Youth Field Day for boys and girls from the ages of 8 to 16. Youth participate in a wide variety of the following activities: archery, fishing, fly tying, fur taking and trapping, boating safety, canoeing, a Cherokee Run obstacle course and closely supervised shooting events.

All youths will have the opportunity to learn about topics such as conservation, taxidermy, wildlife rehabilitation and outdoor safety. The youth will see and learn about wild turkeys, visit a campsite where people in colonial dress will explain how our ancestors once lived, and have the youth sample food cooked on an open fire.

As with every event sponsored by the various affiliated sportsmen’s organizations, safety is the number one priority. There are responsible, knowledgeable adults closely supervising each and every activity. Every precaution is taken to ensure that each Youth Field Day participant integrates ethical outdoor conduct with having a good time. Both events are totally free of charge to all youth registered. All equipment is provided at each station. There will be hats, T-shirts, lunch and goody bags for all registered youths. There are also door prizes to be given away.
